The Value Addition Division, under the Department of SMEs and Cooperatives,  is mandated to spearhead rural economic activities through value Addition technologies in order to achieve rural economic empowerment and consequently realise economic development. The Division employs a community demand driven approach in executing its mandate.
The approach is unique in that it puts emphasis on regional economic development through adding value to locally available resources, through processing quality control, packaging design and marketing promotion.
The Division executes its mandate in tandem with the Malawi Growth and Development Strategy III (MGDS III) and the Vision 2063.
